What Is a Vertical Platform Lift (VPL)?

A Vertical Platform Lift — also called a wheelchair elevator, porch lift, or VPL — is an entirely different solution than a stairlift. Where a stairlift carries a person seated in a chair along a rail, a VPL lifts the entire platform vertically, allowing a person to ride up or down while remaining in their wheelchair or on their mobility scooter — no transfer required. VPLs are ideal for front porches, raised garage entries, decks, back steps, mobile home platforms, and any elevation change where a ramp would be impractically large.
